Thursday morning, while I was sitting on the dentist's chair ready to get my teeth checked and cleaned, I listened to the news on the radio. Nothing special happening out there, I thought. Until they announced the following:
The German government will introduce a tax on emails, effective July 1st. Whenever you send an email from inside Germany it will cost you 1 cent. Not that much, I thought, but at a second thought, considering the amount of emails I send it would be quite costly after a while .
In fact, I was shocked and angry at the same time. They even had a politician stating that the costs of storing electronic data has increased dramatically over the past years so they kind of had to introduce that new tax. As a good side-effet, he said, the new regulation would slow down the amount of spam mails rapidly and effectively!
At least one good thing about it, I thought! But still, how could they do something so stupid (and probably illegal). Actually I was glad about my plans to emigrate, although I thought the law Germany would just be the beginning of a worldwide implementation of laws like that.
The following hours, the news were replayed over and over again. I couldn't stop being mad.
Until I had dinner with my parents. I was talking about the new law and how bad it was, just to have my dad point out the date on the calender...
I never thought I would fall for anything on April 1st... Well, it's never too late to learn a lesson :-)
Concrats to whoever initiated that, you totally fooled me! They said there were almost 60 radio stations involved to spread the news all over Germany. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was so gullible...
