good things are coming your way...

after the hurtful rejection by hertz (well, not really hurtful, just discouraging after they got my hopes up for a second time) i was wondering what do to and where to apply. i found a similar position as a manager trainee at enterprise cars, but the whole hertz application process made me rethink if car rentals is where i really want to be in or if i was just over excited to get an interview and kind of tried to make the industry appealing to me.

after a while, i came to the conclusion that i'd rather wanna be in the tourism industry, first of all because i like to travel and secondly because i might use my german to my advantage and find a job where they don't mind or even need a german speaker.

i considered serving in restaurants or working as a bellperson in a hotel, just to get my foot in the door and get some experience you need to really establish yourself in the industry. so i was looking for different jobs, but as expected, there weren't too many opening. i found a posting for a bellperson at the l'hermitage hotel in vancouver and for a front desk agent in langley (both without previous experience required).
i applied to both places, but didn't hear back from any of them.

i also went to the german restaurant in vancouver to apply for a serving job, but even there they couldn't guarantee a full time position.
pretty discouraged i gave it one last shot at the best western hotel downtown. i walked in, tried to talk to the manager to find out about front desk openings. it seemed pretty busy and he didn't have too much time to talk to me, but at least promised to call me back.

i didn't expect to much, but later that day i got a call from them, offering me a job and telling me they wanted me to come in 5 days a week, as a full time front desk agent.... i couldn't believe that worked out so well...
since then, i work full time on different shifts, but mostly monday through friday from 7:30 to 4pm at the front desk in the best western. i am so grateful that i got this opportunity and thank god for not letting me down in that period of discouragement. gotta tell you more about my job and what i do when i get the chance to!
